Live streaming in public spaces connects people with real-world events as they unfold, but safeguarding privacy—especially for children—remains our highest priority. We are introducing Automatic Face Blurring for Minors in the CamRequest Android app.
This privacy-first feature automatically detects and blurs the faces of children in real time before the video feed ever reaches viewers, giving broadcasters and viewers peace of mind while exploring public spaces.
On-Device, Real-Time Protection
Protecting privacy shouldn’t slow down a live stream. Our face blurring system operates directly on the streamer's device:
- Instant On-Device Processing: Video frames are analyzed locally using lightweight ML models to detect and apply a dynamic blur filter to faces of minors instantly, without adding latency to the WebRTC stream.
- Privacy at the Source: Blurred faces are masked before video data leaves the phone, ensuring that unblurred footage of minors is never uploaded, transmitted or stored on servers.
- Seamless Public Streaming: Streamers can freely showcase city centers, tourist spots and community events without accidentally compromising the privacy of passing families.
Responsible Live Sharing
As real-time location-based streaming grows, setting high standards for digital safety and compliance is essential. This new protection reinforces CamRequest’s commitment to responsible broadcasting, letting our community focus on sharing authentic local perspectives safely.
The update is rolling out in the first publication version of the CamRequest Android app.
